FAQ

  • What is Counselling?
Counselling is a type of ‘talking therapy’ which allows you to discuss your problems and any difficult feelings in a safe, confidential environment. If you want to change something in your life, or gain personal insight into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours counselling is a very helpful process. Together we can explore what is bothering you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. We can then create a plan of action to either help you to address your issues, or help you to find ways of coping. The approach that I use with my clients is tailored to you, recognising you as a unique individual with your own goals and ideas of what you would like to gain from therapy.
  • What is Coaching?
There can be some overlap between Coaching and Counselling, but generally in coaching I will work with you to identify and achieve goals for your own personal and professional development. If you have lost touch with your strengths and abilties I can work with you to rediscover and connect with your own unique talents and explore ways to utilise them. I will support you on your journey: which might include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring your potential, managing health conditions and achieving life ambitions. I will empower you by providing a toolkit of techniques to help you confidently face difficult challenges and overcome emotional barriers. I will provide an objective and empowering environment, along with encouragement and motivation so that you keep on track with progress.

Face-to-face - I offer appointments at Park View Medical Clinic, in Middlesbrough Sessions are 50 minutes long, although can be extended for specific purposes. Telephone sessions - If you prefer telephone sessions this can be arranged, you will need to ensure that you are in a confidential space where there will be no interruptions when the session takes place. When you make your intitial contact with me, please let me know how you would prefer to access sessions.
  • What do you mean by 'Recovery Coaching'?
'Recovery Coaching' covers the work that I undertake with individuals who are seeking support with unhelpful coping mechanisms. It could be that you are turning to alcohol, drugs (including overuse of prescribed medications), gambling, sex, overspending, etc, in a bid to get rid of difficult emotions. This can lead you into a downwards spiral of negative behaviours, negative emotions and undesirable consequences. Eventually the coping mechanism becomes the problem and your life can feel increasingly unmanageable. I will work with you, using Coaching and Counselling approaches to help you make changes and take back control of your life.
